CY0S: Sable Island (NA-063)
CY0S --- > The 2022 Sable Island DXpedition has launched its new website: www.cy0s.com (still a work in progress, new information will be added almost daily). Formal written permission has been granted for a 8-9 day DXpedition in October-November. 'Planning continues to go very well', with K4UEE, W4DKS and W0GJ taking care of the antenna system. 'Even though Sable Island is 42 km long, space is very limited within the Sable Station compound. The Sable horses, which number over 500, have free run of the island, except for the area around the Sable Station, which is fenced in. The DXpedition team has a relatively small footprint to work with. Additionally, no antennas can be placed on or near the beach as Sable Island is home to tens of thousands of grey seals'.

Crozet Islands * by F6CUK
CROZET 2022-23 ---> Thierry, F6CUK reports that 'dates are now known' for his activity from Crozet [425DXN 1603]. 'The 'Marion Dufresne' will leave Reunion Island on 8 December, with a stopover at Tromelin to resupply the people there, then bound for Crozet. I should get there around Christmas. The ship will come back on 26 March 2023 to pick us up, and after stopovers at Kerguelen and Amsterdam, arrive at Reunion on 16 April 2023. Therefore, I will be on Alfred Faure base for a solid three months. These dates may vary slightly depending on weather conditions'. Thierry has requested a special callsign to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the first amateur radio activity from Crozet, conducted by Roger Baude- lot, FB8WW, between December 1961 and February 1962. Thierry's callsign will be announced by F6EXV and F6AJA 'only a few hours before the start of the activity'. See http://crozet2022.r-e-f.org/blog.html for the complete press release.

VP8PJ: FINAL PRESS RELEASE ---> 'We have closed the books on the VP8PJ DX- pedition to the South Orkney Islands (AN-008)', the Leadership Team an- nounced on 13 September. 'Due to the global pandemic our equipment was re- turned to California about two months later than planned. Nothing was missing or damaged during the extended journey. Thanks to the worldwide clubs/foundations, the DX community and our corporate sponsors, the project met all operational and financial goals. We appreciate the continued support from the DX community. Consistent with our commitment to upload the complete VP8PJ log to LoTW six months following the DXpedition, Tim M0URX will upload the complete log on 15 September. Planning for our next project [ZL9 New Zealand Sub Antarctic Islands, 425DXN 1515] is underway. Exact timing will depend on lifting of the global travel restrictions, issuance of the landing permit and ship scheduling, early 2022 is the plan'. [TNX K5GS]

3Y0J: Bouvet Island
3Y0J: LATEST NEWS ---> The 2023 Bouvet Island DXpedition team leaders posted their Press Release #10 on 3 June. 'In late April we successfully conducted a 4-day vessel inspection in Brazil that ended with a very good result. The inspection was carried out by a 3rd party vessel inspector and covered more than 105 checkpoints. The vessel inspection focused on safety equipment, instruments, navigation, engines/ machinery, deck, tenders, fuel & fluids, interior, and exterior. 'Marama' is in very good condition and hence the overall feedback is positive. The vessel went through significant upgrades with regards to machinery and engines in 2021 and has since been tested for years, most lately during the previous Antarctica season. The inspection file resulted in a punch list of only a few minor items to be followed up, no major findings during the 4-day inspection. The team is currently working on the final preparations for packing the container scheduled to be shipped from Oslo in early September. Preparing the packing and shipping the container is extremely time consuming and requires a focus on details as our more than two years of work now is being materialized into packing lists and labelling the equipment. Today we have finally decided our container will be shipped to Port Stanley, Falkland Islands. In Port Stanley a local team of ham radio operators will assist us in receiving the container, conduct a container inspection and make sure all is OK before the team arrive in early January. To Bouvet the team will bring 6500 kg of equipment, which includes several tons of fuel and food. Our contract allows for 22 days on the island, but we have food for 30 days and a plan for rationing should we have to stay beyond 22 days. At this stage all the operators have already paid their full deposit of their individual $20,000 operator fee. This is your insurance that we will do whatever we can to make this DXpedition a success. In a few weeks we will pay our 2nd vessel deposit to 'Marama'. Ultimately this represents a huge undertaking for us financially as well a commitment to go to Bouvet and activate the rare #2 DXCC Bouvet Island. With all the preparation and planning over the course of the last two years you can rely on our commitment and our determination to go onshore Bouvet in a zodiac seven months from now. Going to Bouvet would simply not be possible without the support from the vendors, clubs, foundations, and individual sponsors. June 1st, we completed our budget update, and this shows we're still missing roughly $100,000 out of our $690,000 budget to be able to go to Bouvet. As we now prepare for the next vessel deposit, we need your support to close the gap. Please consider supporting us by donating upfront. You can follow our plans from our website (https://www.3y0j.no/) and the 3Y0J Facebook pages (https://www.facebook.com/groups/3093983840726129)'.

W8S: Swains Island
W8S: SWAINS ISLAND 2023 ---> 'This week the W8S team had another conference call about the planning for the upcoming DXpedition to KH8/s Swains Island', Ronald PA3EWP wrote on 4 November. 'Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, it will remain impossible to travel to American Samoa in the coming months. The limited number of flights, only 5 the first quarter of 2022, from Hawaii to American Samoa with the additional restriction to do a Covid-19 test 5 days before departure in Hawaii makes travelling extreme difficult. Also tourists have a lower priority to buy a ticket. The risk is too great to travel to Swains in the spring of 2022. Two members of our team are also part of the 3Y0J Bouvet team scheduled for November/December 2022. The entire team therefore had to decide to postpone the W8S Swains DXpedi- tion until March 2023. This is the only opportunity to be on Swains for 15 days with the same team as our original plans in 2020. Our project has certainly not been canceled but postponed to the spring of 2023. An extra advantage that the propagation is much better on the higher bands'. Updates will be posted to https://swains2020.lldxt.eu/, as well as to Twitter and Facebook.
